The post-apocalyptic action movie “Mad Shelia” is unofficially touted as China's answer to “Mad Max: Fury Road“.
Yes, we said “Mad Shelia“. No, it's not a typo.
In “Mad Shelia“, the heroine Xi Liya (thus, becoming She-lia, get it? OMG, right?!?) is an androgynous-looking bounty hunter. Or rather, what the movie passes off as ‘androgynous'.
The plot revolves around a world where virgins are in high demand, due to the shortage of healthy females in this post-apocalyptic world. Xi Lia went from bounty hunter to virgin rescuers, while fleeing and battling gangs with names such as Oil City Gang, Ore City Gang, Flying Car Gangs and Peach Blossoms Brothers Gang.
Plotline deja vu, right? Except in this universe, Mad Shelia's warlords are more conscientious about their personal hygiene, compared to your usual post-apocalyptic villains. In fact, everyone is clean, with well-hydrated skins, no matter how long they've chased each other around a long stretch of arid land, riding in rusty vehicles.
Wait, even the vehicles are not that rusty.
This goes to show that just because it's an arid and chaotic post-apocalytic world doesn't mean you shouldn't take time to shower, do laundry and have your vehicles detailed everyday. There is hope after all after the apocalypse!
The first installment, “Mad Shelia: Virgin Road“, is currently streaming on TenCent Video China. The second installment titled “Mad Shelia: Revenge of the Road” is set for release in 2017.
2017 is not even here yet and it's already looking to be the best year ever.
