Ahead of its opening tomorrow nationwide, the title has garnered resounding praise on the festival circuit for the startling mixture of drama, thriller, and dark comedy, and the exquisitely crafted mise-en-scène.
Directed by Kim Sang-chan who debuted with 2007’s comedy-drama Highway Star with Cha Tae-hyun (My Sassy Girl), the film features veteran character actor Lee Moon-sik, who is known for comedic roles in films such as Mapado (2005) and Miss Conspirator (2012). Lee shows off a new side of his acting range.
A karaoke in a rural town called “Karaoke Crazies” is run by Sung-wook (played by Lee Moon-sik). Business is slow and when Sung-wook posts karaoke singing along job to boost sales, a girl in early 20’s, Ha-suk comes along. She’s hopeless game addict and lack of talent but soon she starts to use a special tactic to lure customers in. Then Na-ju, a professional singing along helper insists on helping and she is a savior, turning up the miserable place with her bubbly character. Just when they are ready to come out of the shade, little do they know that a serial killer on the loose in town is after something in the karaoke.
