In less than 24 hours since the death of the first patient, similar cases of disease-related deaths are reported all over Bundang. The medics despair over the super virus that has no known cure, but they soon find hope when they hear of a sole survivor who may have developed antibodies against this ruthless viral mutation. As medical professionals rush to find the sole individual with the potential key for a cure, fatalities rise and soon the government has no choice but to quarantine the city. Amidst the ensuing panic, wild desperation, and violence, the struggle for life between the infected and non-infected begins to spiral out of control.
This is a film about human nature and it portrays what happens when people are in a life and death situation; who among us is selfish and who is selfless when it comes to saving your own skin.
FLU is a balance between two stories told through the perspective of the heroine In-hye. She’s a virologist trying to fight the outbreak of the virus and keep it contained within the boundaries of Bundang and a single mother trying to save her only child. Besides the usual features of the medical disaster movies, FLU is also focused on the personal stories of desperation, love, hope and vengeance experienced by the characters making this film a unique experience.
The film stars Jang Hyuk (Tree with Deep Roots, The Client) as Jigu, Su Ae (A Family, Emperor of the Sea) as In-hye, Yoo Hae-jin (Musa – The Warrior, The Unjust) as Kyung-up and Ma Dong-suk (The Neighbors, Nameless Gangster) as Guk-hwan.
