Overview

This month more than 18 million people attended the Korean Cinemas, sales reach over $124 million dollars. Korean Films gather most of the public again with 64% of the market and reaching sales of $79 million. AS far as foreign films they were watched by 6.6 million people and sales reach $45 million.

If we compared the data from the same month but from last year we can observe that the total admissions descent 12.6%. Korean film admissions only descent 4% but the biggest variation is in the foreign film admissions as they show a decline of 24%. Something we weren’t expecting due the release of the highly awaited “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. This month sales reach $124 million dollars, that’s $30 million less than in 2014.

The Himalayas – The Tiger – Pororo3 : Cyber Space Adventure

This month the most watched Korean Films were: “The Himalayas” (CJ) by Lee Seok-hoon with 5.1 million spectators, “The Tigers” (Contents Panda) by Park Hoon-jung with 1.5 million, and “Poporo 3: Cyber Space Adventure” (Ocon) by Park Young-kyun 391 thousand. As for Foreign Films they were: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (US) by J.J. Abrams with 2.8 million spectators, “Hotel Transylvania 2” (US) by Genndy Tartakovsky with 960 thousand, and “In the Heart of the Sea” (US) by Ron Howard with 809 thousand.

This month the most watched movies were: “The Himalayas” (CJ) by Lee Seok-hoon with 5.1 million spectators, “Inside Men” (Showbox) by Woo Min-ho with 3.3 million, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (US) by J.J. Abrams with 2.8 million, “The Tigers” (Contents Panda) by Park Hoon-jung with 1.5 million, and “Hotel Transylvania 2” (US) by Genndy Tartakovsky with 960 thousand.
