CJ Entertainment just released the Korean movie trailer for “The Map Against the World“. The historical film is based on the true story of geographer and cartographer, Kim Jeong-Ho.
The story begins with an incorrect map which lead to the death of Kim Jeong-ho's father. This inspires him to go across the country and make his own block map of Korea. He sets to create a map for the common people rather than just for royalty. He made the “Daedongyeojido“, also known as “The Great Map of the East Land“. It is the first large-scale map of Korea. Published in 1861, it was Kim Jeong-ho's gift to the people.
“The Map Against the World” the Movie
The film stars Korean actor Cha Seung-Won who plays the role of Kim Jeong-Ho. His co-stars also include Yu Jun-Sang and Nam Ji-Hyun. The veteran filmmaker Kang Woo-Suk directed the movie. This is his twentieth movie but the first one to be a historical film. He also directed Two Cops, Mister Mama and Fists of Legend among others.
Park Bum-Shin's novel “Gosanja” is the inspiration for the movie. Gosanja means “man of the old mountain” which is also the pen name for Kim Jeong-Ho. The movie will open in Korea and select US theaters on September 9th.
