Warner Bros. Japan is heating up the run-up to the much-anticipated December 1 release of the live-action version of Fullmetal Alchemist by sharing a poster that brings together 13 of the film’s main cast members. The Fumihiko Sori-directed movie is based on the classic science fantasy action adventure manga series of the same name, written by Hiromu Arakawa.
Taking place at the beginning of the 20th century, Fullmetal Alchemist is the story of two brothers, one of whom loses his limbs and the other loses his entire body because of attempting forbidden alchemy. They set out on the search for the legendary philosopher’s stone that they believe will repair their damaged bodies, coming across a series of unique characters on the way.
The new poster features the brothers Edward Elric, played by singer-actor Ryosuke Yamada, and Alphonse Elric leading the ensemble. Other characters joining them are Winry Rockbell (Tsubasa Honda), Roy Mustang (Dean Fujioka), Riza Hawkeye (Misako Renbutsu), General Hakuro, Gracia Hughes, Maria Ross, Shou Tucker, Lust, Envy, Gluttony and Tim Marcoh. The visuals of Marcoh and Tucker, which had not been revealed so far, should particularly excite fans awaiting the film’s release.
The manga series has been adapted into two anime series and two feature-length anime films in the past. The live-action film, which has been in planning for many years now, pares down the original story of the series consisting of 27 volumes to about two hours of screen time, though the director has insisted that the makers have remained faithful to the manga.
Produced by Oxybot and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the film will release in Japan on December 1, 2017. International release dates are not known yet. We will keep you informed – in the mean time you can enjoy the latest trailer for the film.
