Takeshi Kitano’s Comedy ‘Getting Any? ‘ Finally Gets Blu-Ray Release

1994 sex- movie Getting Any?, which was edited, written and directed by  (Fireworks, KikujiroOutrage), finally gets released on blu-ray on October 16, announced Third Window Films.

Getting Any? can be described as a bizarre, over the top and absurd comedy that is full of slapstick silliness and never ending gags. A great satire of Japanese society and popular cinema, the movie embraces the spirit of Kitano's early stand-up and television work, and as such it offers a genuine inside look into his true personality.

In 2003, he chose this as one of his three favorite movies among the ten he had directed by that time and confessed that the title had been the basis for many of the followed movies.

The story follows the nerdy middle-aged Asao, a professional daydreamer, whose one and only goal in life is – as the title suggests – to get laid. Asao embarks on a series of slapstick adventures in search of fulfilling his ultimate fantasy – making wild, passionate sex with a woman just like what he saw in the erotic TV film. His holy quest for sex lands Asao in a series of absurd situations, involving robbery schemes, big movie productions, yakuza gang rivalry wars and scientific experiments.

Special features in this Blu-Ray include:

  • New 2k restoration by Office Kitano
  • Audio commentary by Sean Redmond, author of “The Cinema of Takeshi Kitano – Flowering Blood”
  • Interview with Takeshi Kitano from the original DVD release
  • First 1000 copies come with LIMITED EDITION slipcase illustrated by Marie Bergeron
