Confirming our suspicions that he has way more than 24 hours in his normal day, the Korean actor Ma Dong-seok (Train to Busan, Derailed) has just announced he will be the lead in yet another movie. The film, tentatively titled Champion, is believed to be a moving human drama set around the sport of arm wrestling. Apart from appearing in a bulked-up avatar in the film, Ma has also helped create the script to be directed by Kim Yong-wan (Return Match, TV drama Love Cells).
Champion will also see Kwon Yul and Han Ye-ri, who co-starred in the 2016 action thriller The Hunt, come together in major roles. Han Ye-ri is currently on the screens in the drama The Table and in the process of filming director Kim Jee-woon’s sci-fi action flick In-Rang.
Five of Ma Dong-seok‘s films have been or are scheduled to be released in 2017, including the upcoming action movie Crime City. He is currently filming the mystery Bear, expected to come out in 2018. Of course, this workload is not new for the actor. He had six releases in 2012, followed by nine in 2013, including a cameo in the masterpiece New World. The actor recently shared photos on Instagram thanking arm wrestling athletes who have helped him prepare physically for the challenging role in this new film.
Champion is expected to be released in 2018. Warner Bros. Korea will be distributing the film in South Korea.
