The new trailer for one of the most highly anticipated Hong Kong movie of the year, Chasing the Dragon, is here, and it looks awesome. Of course, we would expect no less when Andy Lau and Donnie Yen team up for the first time in a crime thriller directed by star filmmaker Wong Jing (Color of the Game, Mission Milano) and ace cinematographer Jason Kwan.
Set in the early 1960s, the film, which has also been referred to as King of Drug Dealers in many articles, features Yen in the role of Crippled Ho, an illegal immigrant from mainland China, who sneaks into British-ruled Hong Kong. In a city where corruption and crime rule supreme, he makes full use of his combat skills to bulldoze through many underworld adversaries and emerges as the most powerful drug lord.
In the process, the once good-natured man is transformed into a physically crippled, ruthless monster, working under the control of the corrupt Chief Detective Sergeant Lee Rock (Andy Lau). However, even when Rock is forced into premature retirement after the formation of the Independent Commission Against Corruption, Ho insists on carrying on till he becomes the sole player in the vast Hong Kong drug empire.
Apart from the retro gangster-styled action that is bound to gladden the fans of the two leading stars, Chasing the Dragon has also been in the news for Yen's getup, which makes him nearly unrecognizable in the trailer. His character is based on the real-life drug lord Ng Shek-ho, who was active in Hong Kong, Thailand and Taiwan in the 1960s-70s. Plus, Andy Lau reprises his corrupt police officer Lee Rock from the hit 1991 film series of the same name.
The film, which is a remake of the 1991 film To Be Number One according to some news stories, also boasts of a supporting star cast of Kent Cheng (Ip Man 3), Philip Ng (Birth of a Dragon), Philip Keung (Shock Wave), Michelle Hu (Once Upon a Time in Shanghai) and British actor Bryan Larkin, among others.
Chasing the Dragon has been produced by Bona Film Group, Infinitus Entertainment and Mega-Vision Pictures (MVP), and distributed by Shaw Organisation and MVP. USA distribution rights were bagged by Well Go USA earlier this year. Release dates for Hong Kong, China and Singapore are September 28, September 30 and October 5, respectively.

Is it my imagination, or is this dubbed over in Mandarin?
