Jung Woo Sung Aims to Prevent a Korean War In Action Thriller ‘Steel Rain’

On a Christmas day in an unspecified near future, the news of Kim Jong Il's death from Pyongyang leads a coup d'etat to happen in North Korea. Uhm Cheol Woo (played by Jung Woo Sung), a top North Korean Reconnaissance agent, therefore have to collaborate with the senior Chief of Foreign Affairs and Security, Kwak Chul Woo (played by Kwak Do Won) to conduct a secret mission to prevent the breakout of a Korean War.

This is the premise of the upcoming film Steel Rain, which is based on the popular webcomic of the same name. The webtoon was published from April 28, 2011 to September 19, 2016. Written and directed by the webtoonist himself Yang Woo Seok, the filming of the movie begins late February 2017.

“It's now time when we have to face our reality in the cold light of day and actively think about our future,” Yang said in a press release. He is known for helming The Attorney, a box office hit inspired by the late President Roh Moo Hyun, which won many awards back in 2014.

The major supporting role (Ryeo Min Kyeong) was offered to Ko Ah Sung but the actress decided to decline. was later chosen to play this character. The cast also includes some other famous names such as , Kim Eui Sung, Lee Geung Young, Jo Woo Jin, ,…

Steel Rain is the latest in several North Korea-themed thrillers that have released recently. Other films include director Park Hoon Jung's V.I.P, Kim Sung Hoon's Confidential Assignment, and director Kim Ki Duk's The Net.

The movie is expected to hit local theaters in December.
