It won't be an exaggeration to state that the Mandarin-language short film Gong Shou Dao, or GSD, is the martial arts movie event of the year. With a cast and crew that includes names like Jet Li, Tony Jaa, Donnie Yen, Sammo Hung and Yuen Woo-ping, all topped by the surprise package business tycoon Jack Ma in the leading role, we won't blame you if you've been counting days till the film's release. To whet your appetite, here's the 7-minute trailer just released by Ma.
The trailer introduces the extensive cast of the Wen Zhang-directed film, and features Ma short duel between producer Jet Li and Jack Ma. Ma, who plays a bad-ass Tai Chi master in the film, can also be seen performing some spectacular moves. The trailer has been subtitled in English for viewers outside China.
GSD, which is a result of Ma's passion for Tai Chi, a form he has been practicing for 30 years now, is also meant to drum up extra buzz around his Alibaba Group's Double Eleven Global Shopping Festival. According to early reports, the company site has already broken past records for sales, thanks in no small measure to the interest generated by the film.
