5. My Sassy Girl (2001)

For those who loves a good rom-com with a  dramatic twist, you’re going to appreciate this flick. Gyeon-woo (played by Cha Tae-Hyun) is a college student who doesn’t have much with love, despite his efforts. The young man’s mother and aunt tries to help him out and they urge Gyeon-woo to visit his aunt because there is a young woman they want him to meet. Although this character is unnamed and is referred to as “The Girl,” she is played by Jun Ji-hyun.

We don’t want to spoil the rest of the plot, but it involves time travel, time capsules and destiny.

Whether you’re a newly wed, have been married for years, or newly engaged, this is a movie that’ll make you laugh and nod in agreement as the story progresses. This movie focuses on a newly wed couple, Young-min (played by Jo Jung-suk) and Mi-young (played by Shin Min-ah), These two love birds marry after graduating from college, but once the honeymoon is over, the struggles begin. Over time, the two finally start to realize what “love” really means.

3. Hear Me (2009)

In this movie, a young man, Tian-kuo (played by Eddie Peng) is living with his parents and works as a delivery boy for the family’s restaurant. One of his frequent stops is to the local pool where a team of deaf swimmers often train. It is on one of these deliveries to the pool that his attention is drawn to a deaf young woman, Yang Yang (played by Ivy Chen). Although Tian-kuo attempts to befriend her using sign langauge, it turns out she’s not even deaf. It’s a must see!

2. My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday (2016)

For some reason, we are incredibly drawn to movies with time travel elements, so it should be no surprise that this flick is on our list. This movie centers around Takatoshi (played by Sota Fukushi) is an art student who notices Emi (played by Nana Komatsu) on the train. When he steps outside of his comfort zone and asks Emi on a date, she agrees and they soon start dating and spending much of their time together. After Takatoshi notices Emi acting strangely, he confronts her and she reveals the truth – she comes from an alternate reality!

1. I Give My First Love to You (2009)

Ah, young love… This movie isn’t like other budding romance flicks. Sure, Mayu (played by Sakurai Hinako) and Takuma (played by Nomura Shuhei) were friends since childhood, but they don’t meet in school. Takuma has a heart condition and it’s because of his frequent trips to the cardiologist these two become friends – Mayu is the doctor’s daughter. As the story progresses, the pair come to terms that Takuma probably won’t live beyond 20-years old and… Well, you’ve got to watch it to see! It’s a heartrenching film that makes you appreciate your partner so much more.
