5 Completely True Events The Movie Casino Is Based On

Are you a fan of Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. If so, you have probably watched the movie “Casino”. The movie was released in 1995 in the United States. It became a big hit within just a few short days. With that said, many people are not familiar the basis of the film. Below, you will discover a list of 5 true events that Casino is based on.

Based On Real People

What makes Casino even more intriguing is the fact that the main characters are based on the stories of real people. For example, Sam “Ace” Rothstein was based on the renowned gambler, Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal. Rosenthal was also an executive of a casino in Las Vegas and an associate of organized crime. Nicky Santoro was based on American mobster, Anthony John “Ant” Spilotro. Ginger McKenna was based on the wife of Frank Rosenthal. McGee was a socialite and American model. She also appeared in various Las Vegas shows as a showgirl.

Rosenthal Was Unlicensed

Even though Rosenthal was a Las Vegas casino executive, he never obtained his gambling license. Rosenthal believed that he could stay under the radar better if he did not obtain or carry a gambling license. Instead of Rosenthal taking on big roles in the gambling industry, he preferred to be low-profile. He worked with the mob by performing roles that would not attract a lot of publicity or attention. In the United States and other countries where gambling is legal, casinos must be licensed. Online casinos, such as Agen Poker, must be licensed to operate legitimately.

Rosenthal Was Not Killed In A Car-Bombing

Many people are under the impression that Rosenthal died in a car-bombing. This is a huge misconception. While he was in his car when it was bombed, he survived to tell the story to anyone who would listen. According to Rosenthal’s story, a metal plate utilized by auto manufacturers to stabilize the driver’s seat was the only reason he had not died during the bombing. The plate was positioned under the seat of the driver. It is unclear is his story was ever verified but most people would not dare to challenge Rosenthal.

McGee Did Have An Affair With Spilotoro

The movie featured a love affair between Santoro and McKenna. In real life, Spilotoro and McGee did have a love affair. It is unclear how long the affair lasted but it is clear how it came to a finale. The director agreed to keep the story alive by ending the affair between McKenna and Santoro the same way the love affair ended between the real couple.

McGee

The director also chose to portray the death of McKenna in the same manner as the death of McGee. The fictional life of McKenna ended in an overdose, which is the same way McGee died. This was a very sad moment in the show. Many viewers agreed that the death of McKenna was very tragic.

Summary

The casino was nominated for an Oscar. The total lifetime revenue for the movie was over $42 million. It is still popular today, especially among the fans of Robert De Niro and Ginger McKenna.
