Japanese Avant-garde and Experimental Film Festival (JAEFF) 2020 – Call for submissions

The 3rd Japanese Avant-garde and Experimental Film Festival – is now accepting short film submissions for its 2020 festival!

The deadline to submit is 31 May.

JAEFF will screen work that explores physicality—through sport, performance, the body or dance.

This edition of JAEFF is inspired by the spirit of the Olympic games and the idea of ‘Olympism': blending sport with culture, the joy of effort, the value of a good example, shared social responsibility and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles.

With room to play with these concepts, if it sounds like your film could be a part of this programme, we want to see it.

And as it's 2020, the first 20 submissions will receive a 20% discount. Use code ‘JAEFF2020' when submitting your film via FilmFreeway.

About the author

Adriana Rosati

On paper I am an Italian living in London, in reality I was born and bread in a popcorn bucket. I've loved cinema since I was a little child and I’ve always had a passion and interest for Asian (especially Japanese) pop culture, food and traditions, but on the cinema side, my big, first love is Hong Kong Cinema. Then - by a sort of osmosis - I have expanded my love and appreciation to the cinematography of other Asian countries. I like action, heroic bloodshed, wu-xia, Shaw Bros (even if it’s not my specialty), Anime, and also more auteur-ish movies. Anything that is good, really, but I am allergic to rom-com (unless it’s a HK rom-com, possibly featuring Andy Lau in his 20s)"
