Indian Cinematography to Learn Hindi: All That a Student Could Use

Learning Hindi? This a truly difficult task, especially when being a student with all the struggles that students tend to face these days. However, there are some useful approaches for you to use when studying. One of them is giving yourself time for rest. However, it does not mean that you cannot spend even your leisure time profitably!

One of the best ways to spend your free time in such a (profitable) way is to enjoy Indian cinematography. Below you can find a list of captivating Indian films for you to continue learning the language even when having a rest.

Kal Ho Naa Ho

Want to watch a romantic dramafilm in the Hindi language? This one will be a perfect choice. Nikkhil Advani (also famous for films Dehli Safari and Batla House) made the film; thus, there are no doubts – the outcome will be captivating. If you are a fan of Bollywood, you will know the cast for sure, such as most of the actors are famous in India.

KHNHis about a student getting her MBA,NainaKapur, who falls in love with deathly ill Aman Mathur. He tries to arrange the relationships betweenNaina and her best friend, such as he is afraid that she will grieve the whole of her life when he passes away.

Despite the dramatic and depressive plot of the film, it remains a captivating work that will draw your attention for a long time. And that is exactly that a student learning a language needs – watching and practicing Hindi listening skills for months and years.

3 Idiots

There are many Indian (or Bollywood movies) that have not gathered much attention overseas. But this is not about 3 Idiots. The film has been popular not only among the Indian public but also all around the world. Many critics claim that this film has probably been one of the most successful Indian films.

3 Idiots is a film co-written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani (also famous for his films  Sanju, Lage Raho Munnabhai and Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.). The plot of the film is about the friendship of 3 engineering students and means to satirically depict Indian education system pressures (social, economic, etc.).

Should be mentioned the flow of the film itself: all the stories develop in parallel (one of them in present days, and another – in the past). That makes us watch the film with great attentiveness while enjoying every moment and joke.

Bothering and constantly asking, ‘Where I can find a homework helper and help me with the studying?’ Then you will like 3 Idiots for sure, such as here you can see the heroes having the same student’s troubles and issues (just as you are). Even better – the film can help you deal with some of the challenges, especially when you need to practice your Hindi language skills.

Gangs of Wasseypur

Gangs of Wasseypur is a 2012 5-hours film about crime and violence in a town called Wasseypur. Here you will not see any stereotypical love stories and Bollywood-like musical scenes! The film highlights the difficult and issued topic of crime in small towns in India.

The plot is about the coal mafia of Dhanbad and political conflicts among 3 main crime families. The story grabs a long time from 1942 to 2009. Due to the rich and developed story, the film lasts for 5-hours. However, for marketing and broadcasting purposes, it was divided into 2 parts. Thus, you have a choice to look at one go the whole film, or watch the films separately.

The film itself gives a very interesting alternative to most of the Indian films, so if willing to dive into the criminal story, meanwhile learning Hindi, go ahead!

Khudgarz

Want some old-school movies? Khudgarz is an action and drama film, produced in 1987. The director and producer is Rakesh Roshan, who you might also know for such works as KhoonBhariMaang (1988), Koi… Mil Gaya (2003) and KahoNaa… Pyaar Hai (2000). The plot is based on the novel Kane and Abel, written by British author Jeffrey Archer. This is just an amazing classical Bollywood film representative; there are no doubts – you will love it!

There is no point in struggling all the time with Hindi language studying – take some rest, grab tasty stacks, and spend some quality time while watching some of the best Hindi films. Remember, while being a student, you need to enjoy your time, even when studying!
