The 22nd JEONJU IFF Poster Changed and a New Official Poster Released

(JEONJU IFF, Festival Director LEE Joondong) decided to change its official poster.

On February 15, JEONJU IFF released an official poster for its 22nd edition. It featured alphabet character J to highlight the city brand of JEONJU. Upon learning that the poster is similar to a poster used for an international event, JEONJU IFF made a decision to replace the poster with a new one.

The previous poster continued the tradition of featuring the letter J for JEONJU IFF. The design featured an alphabet character J, which is made of shapes representing a pixel and a movie screen. However, it was reported that the main motif and design features of the poster were highly similar to those of a poster used for an international event. Upon learning about the similarities, the art director, designer, and the JEONJU IFF organizing committee had discussions and made the final decision to cancel the poster and release a new poster.

The organizing committee of JEONJU IFF explained, “The design of the previous poster may not be a case of attempted imitation or plagiarism. However, we have a firm belief that we need to replace the poster with a completely new, original one because JEONJU IFF has been pursuing the vision of creativity.” They added, “It is much to be regretted that we could not rule out poster designs that are similar to those of existing posters. Taking this as a lesson, we will keep trying our very best to come up with creative designs for future editions of JEONJU IFF.”

The new official poster for the 22nd edition of JEONJU IFF is developed from a draft that was one of the final candidates, based on the design concept of this year's slogan. By combining the alphabet character J made up of rectangles of varied proportions with the slogan, Film Goes On, the new poster tells a message what the film festival would do in this time of coronavirus. Two rectangles on the new poster are associated with theaters and digital devices, respectively. They reflect JEONJU IFF's commitment to host an event for filmmakers and film lovers to enjoy by incorporating online and offline platforms and to get through the COVID-19 crisis. The organizing committee said that they would continue putting their best effort to prepare for the festival.

The 22nd JEONJU IFF will be held on Jeonju Film Street from April 29 to May 8, 2021.
