On the occasion of Great Absence screening at Japan Cuts, and in a rather touching interview, Tatsuya Fujii talks about his collaboration with Nagisa Oshima and how the controversy of “In the Realms of Senses” and “Empire of Passion” impacted his career, appearing in the premiere of the former in New York decades after the initial screening was cancelled, his collaboration with Takeshi Kitano, his character in “The Great Absence” and how he approached him, his cooperation with Kei Chikaura and Mirai Moriyama and other topics.
Great Absence opens theatrically July 19th in New York and July 26th in Los Angeles with a national release to follow in the U.S.
