The 21th edition of SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL had been physically held from July 13 to July 21 (and virtually from July 20 to July 24), and wrapped at the Closing Ceremony, Sunday July 21. Jury and Audience award winners were announced at the Ceremony.
For the International Competition, Sunday (Uzbekistan), directed by Shokir Kholikov, received the Grand Prize in the International Competition. Stolen (India), directed by Karan Tejpal, won the Best Director. Happy Life (Japan), directed by Yoshihiko Taniguchi received the Special Jury Prize and SKIP CITY AWARD, which is selected from all Japanese films both in the International Competition and the Japanese Film Competition, for production support by the festival. This year’s jury members were a director Kazuya Shiraishi, President of the Jury and a renowned producer, Miyako Araki, and, Miyuki Takei, the president of the distribution company Moviola. In addition, Stolen (India) was chosen for the Audience Award.
For the Japanese Film Competition, Hina Murata’s feature debut The Midnight Sun (Japan) received Best Picture (Feature Length). Hana and Koto directed by Hitomi Tanoue, won Best Picture (Short Length). The jury members were led by a director Satoko Yokohama, Yota Kawase, an actor and Meiske Taurisia, a producer (Indonesia). The Audience Award (Feature Length) went to Poems of Flower Rain (Japan), directed by Jengil Park, and the Audience Award (Short Length) was given to Stand Up and Roll (Japan), directed by Jun Hosoi. All Japanese film winners had their world premieres at the festival. Award winners are as follows:
