Jakarta Film Week 2024 returns for its fourth year with the support of the Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Agency. Through a press conference held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at CGV FX Sudirman, the festival was officially announced to take place from October 23-27, 2024. Various exciting and innovative activities are set to be held at key locations in Jakarta, such as CGV Grand Indonesia, Taman Ismail Marzuki, and Mercure Jakarta Cikini.
Support from the Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Agency in Strengthening the Film Industry
The Head of the Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Andhika Permata, emphasized the Jakarta government’s commitment to maintaining the film ecosystem and supporting the film industry, especially amid Jakarta’s charm as a global city. “Jakarta, which radiates its charm as a hub of activity and the growth of millions of residents, especially in the creative economy sector, continues progressing towards becoming global. The Jakarta Film Week 2024 event, which has become a tradition, is one of the real manifestations of Jakarta’s beauty through the creative industry. Therefore, we hope this festival will serve as a delightful entertainment for film industry enthusiasts, especially the people of Jakarta,” he said.
Jakarta Film Week 2024 Theme: Resonance
This year, Jakarta Film Week carries the theme “Resonance”, which illustrates how the development of cinema has the power to create a broad impact. Rina Damayanti, Festival Director of Jakarta Film Week said, “Since 2021, Jakarta Film Week has continued to grow.The number of films submitted has increased from year to year, and the enthusiasm from stakeholders in the film industry also continue to rise. This is also in line with the development of the film industry in Indonesia. Domestically, by 2022 and 2023, over a dozen Indonesian films managed to attract more than one million viewers annually, triggering the expansion of cinema screens and increased investment. Internationally, Indonesian films have received funding and featured at prestigious festivals, showcasing how the film ecosystem continues to connect and grow.
Since its inception in 2021,Jakarta Film Week has shown significant growth. The number of film submissions has increased every year, reflecting the growing enthusiasm of filmmakers from around the world. This year, 1,132 films from 85 countries were submitted, with 140 films from 50 countries selected. This highlights the great interest and expectations surrounding the festival, which play a crucial role in strengthening the film ecosystem both in Indonesia and globally.
The selected films can be watched offline at CGV Grand Indonesia and Taman Ismail Marzuki. However, several films featured at Jakarta Film Week can also be watched online through Vidio.
“We are very proud to present the films we take great pride in, which will be announced soon. In 2024, Jakarta Film Week is becoming even more vibrant with films from 50 countries. The programs we offer are diverse, and we hope they can strengthen the domestic film industry,” said Novi Hanabi, Program Manager of Jakarta Film Week 2024.
On this occasion, Jakarta Film Week also announced this year’s opening film, Goodbye, Farewell directed by Adriyanto Dewo, produced by Adhya Pictures and Relate Films. Meanwhile, the closing film of this year’s festival comes from Vietnam, titled Don’t Cry, Butterfly, directed by Duong Dieu Linh, which will add to the excitement of Jakarta Film Week 2024. Don’t Cry, Butterfly won two awards at the 2024 Venice Film Festival after premiering at the prestigious Venice Critics Week. The film received the top award for Best Film and the award for Most Innovative Film.
Adriyanto Dewo, the director of Sampai Jumpa, Selamat Tinggal, was also present and shared his thoughts: “I hope this fresh-from-the-oven film will be well-received by everyone at Jakarta
Film Week,” he said without revealing any details about the film. Notably, the screening of this film at Jakarta Film Week 2024 will mark its world premiere.
As a great appreciation to filmmakers, Jakarta Film Week also presents six prestigious awards to the best filmmakers. These awards include:
- Global Feature Awards (Best International Feature Film)
- Global Short Awards (Best International Short Film)
- Global Animation Awards (Best Short Animation Film)
- Direction Awards (Best Indonesian Feature Film)
- Series of the Year (Best Original Series on Over-The-Top platforms)
- Jakarta Film Fund Awards (Award for films produced by Jakarta Film Fund winners)
These awards are expected to encourage filmmakers to continue to innovate and create, both at the national and international levels.
Special Program for The People of Jakarta: Jakarta Film Fund
One of the flagship programs of Jakarta Film Week is the Jakarta Film Fund (JFF), which has been running since 2021 and produced 14 short films. This year, three selected film projects received funding of 50 million rupiah and Production Movielab facilities, ranging from directing assistance, script writing, to the editing process. These films will be screened for the first time at Jakarta Film Week 2024. This program opens space for young filmmakers to develop their potential, providing opportunities to work with full support from the industry.
Industry Program: JFW Net
Jakarta Film Week returns with JFW Net, a program focused on the development of the film industry that combines various collaborative and educational programs.
The JFW Net program includes Producers Lab, Pitching Forum, Business Forum, Festival Meeting, Producers Network, Industry Talks, and Networking Event. To strengthen collaboration at the ASEAN regional level, Jakarta Film Week 2024 also invites film festivals in the region to network, open opportunities for collaboration, and gather in the Festival Meeting program, which has been a part of Jakarta Film Week since last year’s event.
The JFW Net activities receive support from the Directorate of Film, Music and Media of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). According to Ahmad Mahendra, Director of Film, Music and Media (PMM) of Kemendikbudristek, “Our commitment is to support the development of the film industry not only at the national level but also internationally. Jakarta Film Week, with its programs, serves as an important platform for new Indonesian talents to continue shining and achieve their next accomplishments.”
Kristo Immanuel as Festival Ambassador

Kristo Immanuel has been selected as the Festival Ambassador of Jakarta Film Week 2024. Kristo expressed his enthusiasm for being involved in the festival, “I am excited to be a part of Jakarta Film Week 2024. This is an opportunity to bring the world of cinema closer to the public and introduce film festivals to more people.
