Magma Entertainment is set to release "Qodrat 2" in 2025, which will result in a trilogy and a spin-off

In an exciting announcement, , the director of the original “” revealed ‘s ambitious plans to expand the successful movie franchise.

Gozali shared that the 2022 hit “Qodrat” has sparked a wave of Islamic horror movies in Indonesia, with the film’s portrayal of an Islamic priest as the main hero being a significant departure from the genre’s past. “Before ‘Qodrat,’ Islamic priests used to have limited screen time in movies, often dying or appearing only at the end. But ‘Qodrat’ changed that, making the Islamic priest the central protagonist,” Gozali explained.

Building on this success, Magma Entertainment is set to release “” in 2025, which will result in a trilogy that will also culminate in a crossover with the villain’s perspective. “This fourth movie will be told from the point of view of the evil character, similar to how Qodrat’ focused on the hero. It will be an anti-hero story, and at the end of the trilogy, the Islamic priest from the original ‘Qodrat’ will cross over to face the villain,” Gozali reveals

The studio is also collaborating with Wahana Creator and Cinema Cool, known for their focus on social criticism and Gen Z storytelling. “This partnership will allow us to produce a new type of horror for Indonesia, blending different genres and themes to create a unique cinematic experience,” Gozali says. The result of this collaboration is “Tumbal Darah”, which will have its world premiere tomorrow at Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival.

While the “Qodrat” franchise has found immense success, Gozali acknowledges that action movies have struggled to replicate that box office performance in Indonesia, with horror remaining the more popular genre. However, the studio is exploring ways to expand its repertoire, drawing inspiration from the company’s rich heritage, including a remake of “Perempuan Dalam Pasungan”, a classic film that was recognized at the Berlin Film Festival in 1981.

With the “Qodrat” universe set to expand and the studio’s commitment to exploring new genres and collaborations, Magma Entertainment is poised to continue its impact on the Indonesian film industry.
