A Theater Anime Adaptation of the Debut Work by Manga Artist Uoto (“Chi: Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite”)!

Following the anime adaptation and stage play announcement of “Chi: Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite”, which took the manga world by storm and made Uoto the youngest-ever winner of the prestigious Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Grand Prize, comes the theatrical anime adaptation of his debut serialized work “Hyakuemu.” (Published by Kodansha).

This story delves into the madness and passion of those captivated by the fleeting brilliance of the 100-meter dash—an athletic moment lasting less than 10 seconds. It has resonated with readers, sparking reactions like “It fired me up!” and “A feeling I’ve never had from a sports manga,” and has maintained a passionate fanbase even after its conclusion.

In the voice cast, we have as Togashi, a naturally gifted sprinter, and as Komiya, who becomes obsessed with the 100-meter sprint after meeting Togashi. Both are renowned actors with strong reputations for their voice work, breathing life into their respective characters.

Directing the film is , a bold creator who made a splash with his feature debut On-Gaku: Our Sound, which was nominated for the Annie Awards (often called “the Oscars of the animation world”) and received widespread acclaim at international and domestic film festivals. Hyakuemu. was also selected for the “Work in Progress” section at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, drawing early attention from around the globe.

With a stellar cast and crew, this year’s most thrilling cinematic experience will race across the screen at top speed.

Panagiotis (Panos) Kotzathanasis is a film critic and reviewer, specialized in Asian Cinema. He is the owner and administrator of Asian Movie Pulse, one of the biggest portals dealing with Asian cinema.
