MISTRESS DISPELLER (2024) marks Hong Kong filmmaker Elizabeth Lo‘s sophomore feature. In this documentary, we watch a middle-aged, married couple consult a “mistress dispeller” — that is, an outside professional — to salvage their relationship, after one of them cozies up to a younger woman at work.
On the occasion of the CAAMFest screening of MISTRESS DISPELLER (2024), we caught Elizabeth Lo over Zoom to talk about treating production as a “passport” to stay abroad, the deception of the titular Mistress Dispeller, and parsing romance from love.
