Five Flavours Film Festival News

Five Flavours Asian Film Festival 2020 Call For Submissions!

2020 is an extremely challenging year for the film industry but we must stay positive and keep working as intensively as ever. Unlike many events around the globe, which had to be canceled, rescheduled or postponed for unspecified future, Five Flavours Film Festival aims to take place as planned in November. However, there's no denying that things are different this year and even the regular selecting process has been disrupted. Normally in the first half of the year the curators would be meeting the filmmakers at the film festivals like Hong Kong FilMart, Udine Far East Film Festival or Cannes, just to mention few. Regardless of circumstances, still wants to see Your work so if you would like to submit Your film, don't hesitate to contact the curators.

Why Five Flavours?
Five Flavours Asian Film Festival is one of the very few film events in Europe uniquely dedicated to Asian cinema. For past 13 years it has been presenting films from South East, East and South Asia, bringing to Poland premiere screenings of the latest and most appealing independent productions as well as classics, genre films, new works of renowned Asian directors and retrospectives. The Festival has grown to become one of the biggest events of its kind, well recognised in Europe and Asia.

The competition section called New Asian Cinema aims to present fresh voices and outstanding productions, which address current issues and broaden the boundaries of film imagination. The aim has always been to highlight filmmakers whose work is different, exciting and made with passion. The Festival looks for artists at the beginning of their creative path, creating innovative and original projects. Selected films compete for the Grand Prix of the Festival, which from 2015 is picked by People's Jury – a group of eleven cinema enthusiast, carefully selected non professionals distinguished by real love for Asian cinema.

About the author

Adriana Rosati

On paper I am an Italian living in London, in reality I was born and bread in a popcorn bucket. I've loved cinema since I was a little child and I’ve always had a passion and interest for Asian (especially Japanese) pop culture, food and traditions, but on the cinema side, my big, first love is Hong Kong Cinema. Then - by a sort of osmosis - I have expanded my love and appreciation to the cinematography of other Asian countries. I like action, heroic bloodshed, wu-xia, Shaw Bros (even if it’s not my specialty), Anime, and also more auteur-ish movies. Anything that is good, really, but I am allergic to rom-com (unless it’s a HK rom-com, possibly featuring Andy Lau in his 20s)"
