Vienna Shorts 2022 Opens to Film Submissions

Deadline: January 5, 2022

A message from Team:

STOP THE CHATTER: WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR FILMS!

You know us. Actually, no joke is too silly for us and no punchline is too blunt. But there have been enough puns with “Kurz” in the last few days. So let's stop the chatter and please send us your films (or filmed chat transcripts)! Since a few days our submission gates for VIENNA SHORTS 2022 are open –– and apart from that there are also some more calls for entries and announcements that we are happy to share with you. We look forward to your entries and hope that in the coming weeks we can continue to sit in front of the screen with astonished faces.

CALL FOR FILMS: 19. AUSGABE VON VIENNA SHORTS

More than 100 films have already been submitted on the first day of the new submission period––and we expect things to get busy again in the coming weeks and months on FilmFreeway, Shortfilmdepot and Filmchief (directly via our website). Until January, you can submit to our four competition categories, with prizes worth over 20,000 euros at stake. In addition, submissions are also possible in three non-competitive categories. All details about the 19th festival edition (May 25-30, 2022) and the submissions can be found here –– we are looking forward to your films!

CALL FOR SCRIPTS: EUROPÄISCHE KOPRODUKTIONEN

If you are planning a short film as a European co-production and already have a script up your sleeve, you've come to the right place: The European co-production forum “Euro Connection” is scheduled to take place in Clermont-Ferrand in February 2022, live and with an invitation to the French Massif Central for the selected project. We coordinate––as one of 30 partner organizations in Europe––the submissions from Austria. Until October 20th you can pitch your project to us. All details and contacts can be found here.

CALL FOR PROJECTS: PIXEL, BYTES + FILM 2022

For more than ten years, the Ministry of Culture (BMKÖS) has been looking for cinematic forms of expression that go beyond conventional formats under the title “Pixel, Bytes + Film”. Once again this year, development and production funding is being offered for audiovisual projects in a transmedia and digital-innovative context. Strategies around distribution and visibility of the resulting works are also part of the funding program, among others in cooperation with the cultural broadcaster ORF III. The deadline for submissions is November 2, details about the funding program can be found here.

VIENNA SHORTS SUPPORTS: VIENNALE 2021

Austria's largest international film event takes place this year from October 21-31 and includes numerous new cinema productions, all Austrian premieres, only a few of which are released in regular theaters. The program is complemented by a series of monographs, a cinematography section and historiographies, as well as the annual retrospective. For more info, visit www.viennale.at. The program is online starting tomorrow evening, with tickets available Oct. 16 (10 a.m.).

About the author

Adriana Rosati

On paper I am an Italian living in London, in reality I was born and bread in a popcorn bucket. I've loved cinema since I was a little child and I’ve always had a passion and interest for Asian (especially Japanese) pop culture, food and traditions, but on the cinema side, my big, first love is Hong Kong Cinema. Then - by a sort of osmosis - I have expanded my love and appreciation to the cinematography of other Asian countries. I like action, heroic bloodshed, wu-xia, Shaw Bros (even if it’s not my specialty), Anime, and also more auteur-ish movies. Anything that is good, really, but I am allergic to rom-com (unless it’s a HK rom-com, possibly featuring Andy Lau in his 20s)"
