The cast for “Train to Busan” director Yeon Sang-ho‘s new project “Hell”, a horror-series for Netflix, has been confirmed and it is a star-studded affair. The project, which started as a film before turning into a Netflix Original series and is based on a webtoon by Yeon, has successfully roped in Yoo Ah-in, Park Jung-min, Kim Hyun-joo, Won Jin-ah and actor/director Yang Ik-june in key roles.
“Hell” revolves around a supernatural phenomenon in which the angels of hell ascend to the human world, appear before people without them realising it and condemn them to die. With the uncertainty of whether this is a blessing or a curse, a new religion arises that proclaims itself an interpreter of God’s intentions.
Following his role as the survivor of a zombie outbreak in this year’s “#ALIVE”, Yoo Ah-in takes on the role of Chairman Jung Jin-soo, the head of the New Truth Society, an emerging religion that explains that the phenomenon of the Death Angel’s visit is a sign of God. When the angels of death arrive in the human world, he and his followers begin a crusade ensuring that the visits are the will of the Divine. This will be Yoo Ah-in’s first tv series role since “Chicago Typewriter” in 2017. Park Jung-min, meanwhile, will play the role of Bae Yeong-jae, a producer of a broadcasting station that delves into the truth of the New Truth Society. He was last seen in a tv series in the Korean adaptation of hit American show “Entourage” and also had a cameo in “Mr. Sunshine”.
Kim Hyun-joo will play in the drama Min Hye-jin, a smart and self-confident lawyer who is going against the New Truth Society and its devoted devotees. For her part, Won Jin-ah will play Song So-hyun, Bae Yeong-jae’s wife and member of the New Truth Society. Song So-hyun will soon be under a lot of pressure from the cult. In addition, Yang Ik-june, the director and writer of the domestic violence drama “Breathless”, will play detective Jin Kyeong-hoon who investigates the appearance of the Death Angel from hell. Teenage actress Lee Re, who was also in the director’s recently released “Peninsula”, also joins the project as Jin Kyeong-hoon’s daughter.
“Hell” will be written and directed by Yeon Sang-ho and will also have the collaboration of artist Choi Kyu-seok, who illustrated the source webtoon, in writing the script.
