There’s no shortage of CGI-animated movies released every season worldwide and in Asia in particular, China is one of the forerunners in the animated film industry with technical expertise of local animators and solid storylines.
Last year, Chinese audience saw the release of the hit live-action and CGI film ‘Monster Hunt‘ which went on to become the highest grossing film in the domestic box office. ‘Monkey King: Hero is Back’ also wowed domestic audiences and garnered enough to be included in the top 10 highest-grossing movies of 2015.
2016 is no different with the release of the movie Little Door Gods back in January 1. It has now grossed over USD $11 million in the domestic box office alone, according to Box Office Mojo. This animated fantasy film tells the story of Shen Tu and Yu Lei, two Door Gods worried about the future of their employment in a parallel spirit world as more people in the modern world do not believe in them or need them anymore.
Hilarity and chaos ensue as one of them transports himself to the human world to prove his value.
This animated film was directed by Gary Wang of Beijing-based Light Chaser Animation Studios (also the founder of video on demand platform Tudou.com) and distributed by Alibaba Pictures. Gary Wang also served as the screenwriter for this animated film. Xiaosong Gao voiced Door God Shen Tu and Hongming Luo brought to life the Door God Yu Lei. No news yet whether this film will be released in other countries.
