Interestingly, the “” (2011) is the prequel to the 2018 award-winning “House of Hummingbird” and features the same family of Eun-hee, 6 years earlier. Infused with childhood memories and melancholy, “The Recorder Exam” is perfectly stand-alone but it is also an essential view if you have loved the 2018 feature film as it provides an additional insight into Eun-hee's struggle and one more dose of lyricism from director Bora Kim.

Synopsis

It's 1988, the Seoul Olympics are wrapping up and 8-yer-old Eun-hee (a wonderful ) is preparing for her recorder exam. It's her first important challenge and she is striving to get some attention and support from her busy family.
