Trailer: Milocrorze: A Love Story by Yoshimasa Ishibashi

Written and directed by Ishibashi Yoshimasa, Milocroze is his first full-length feature film. Ishibashi’s portfolio to date includes the critically acclaimed 16mm black and white film Kuruwasetaino and the cult mannequin television drama series, OH! Mikey. Ishibashi also directs the art unit Kyupi Kyupi. His latest work both draws on and brings together a range of themes and visual ideas partially developed in previous projects. The culmination of a body of work that spans 2 decades, Milocroze is a film in which Ishibashi displays the full range of his creative talent.

A young man’s world is rocked by a mysterious woman.
An unorthodox youth counselor offers idiosyncratic advice to young men about romance.
A one-eyed ronin falls in love with a florist and is drawn into a quest to recover his kidnapped lover.

Milocrorze is a film containing 2 separate love stories interspersed with a series of irreverent sketches based on the anxieties of young men in love. Both stories and sketches while largely independent from one another are connected through a series of recurring visual motifs. The film explores a range of visual styles and genres that span from musical to samurai drama. And as is usually the case with Ishibashi’s work, the rich carefully worked imagery is often erotic and always woven around the director’s delight in the ridiculous and unique sense of humor.
