News Udine Far East Film Festival

In the Mood for FEFF. Udine Far East Film Festival 23 Announces its Hybrib Edition.

From 11 to 19 June the Teatro Nuovo "Giovanni da Udine" will reopen its doors to FEFF.

UDINE – After the revolutionary digital edition last summer, the Far East Film Festival in Udine goes back to its origins, compatibly – it does not even need to be emphasized –  with the dynamics, priorities and rules of the health emergency. From 11 to 19 June, therefore, the Teatro Nuovo “Giovanni da Udine” will reopen its doors to the best of Asian popular cinema. And the second historic venue of the festival will also reopen its doors to the East: the Visionary cinema, newly restored and expanded.

In short: we can officially trigger the countdown for a new, precious and (certainly) adventurous full immersion in the heart of cinematic Asia: Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia! 23 chosed to match the announcement with a splendid illustration by Martina Sobacchi. It is a frame from In the “Mood for Love”, a legendary love story – the one told by Wong Kar Wai – for another love story – the one between the FEFF and its public – which has lasted since 1999! In the Mood for FEFF can only represent the perfect claim to launch chapter number 23!

Together with the FEFF, you will find the FEFF Campus, the journalism school for young talents led by veteran Mathew Scott. From 14 to 18 June we will also meet Ties That Bind, the Asia-Europe co-production workshop with the direction of EAVE, and from 16 to 18 June Focus Asia, the Industry area of the festival, will return with the Far East section in progress (the first and only European platform dedicated to Asian films in post-production), the project market and a rich program of webinars.

The final word on the competing films will be – as always – given to the audience; the spectators will actually vote, determining the winners and assigning the Mulberries (produced by IdeaPrototipi). The proclamation of the Audience Awards will close the Festival on Saturday 19 June, and on that occasion, the winner of the Mulberry for best first work, chosen by an international jury will be disclosed.

On paper I am an Italian living in London, in reality I was born and bread in a popcorn bucket. I've loved cinema since I was a little child and I’ve always had a passion and interest for Asian (especially Japanese) pop culture, food and traditions, but on the cinema side, my big, first love is Hong Kong Cinema. Then - by a sort of osmosis - I have expanded my love and appreciation to the cinematography of other Asian countries. I like action, heroic bloodshed, wu-xia, Shaw Bros (even if it’s not my specialty), Anime, and also more auteur-ish movies. Anything that is good, really, but I am allergic to rom-com (unless it’s a HK rom-com, possibly featuring Andy Lau in his 20s)"
