Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinemas at the 74th Cannes Festival, Collector’s Edition:

This 74th was that of a “collector's” edition, very different from previous editions, but at the same time gentle, thanks to the great kindness of the reception staff, security, surveillance, and harsh because of the Covid epidemic. It is a great pleasure to meet in love with film culture, to see so many people with whom we have become friends in 25 years of attending the Cannes Film Festival.

If the Film Market is very different from usual, the official selection of films is always exceptional; what a pleasure to be able to taste it in person

The official representatives of the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinemas, Martine and Jean-Marc Thérouanne, accompanied by their collaborators Marc Haaz and Jules Gouillon, went to meet producers, directors, festival managers, and other cinema professionals, to whom they gave a hundred catalogs presenting the VIFFAC. Many contacts were made during the Film Market dinner, the festival directors dinner, the Festivals Mixer cocktail, etc.

They were able to see some filmmakers such as Semih Kaplanoglu (Turkish director who competed in Vesoul in 2002 with his first feature film “Away From Home”) present at Cannes this year in official selection, with his last film “Commitment Hassan”.

They distributed six thousand postcards announcing the 28th edition of the Vesoul International Festival of Asian Cinemas, which will take place from February 1 to 8, 2022.

Panos Kotzathanasis

My name is Panos Kotzathanasis and I am Greek. Being a fan of Asian cinema and especially of Chinese kung fu and Japanese samurai movies since I was a little kid, I cultivated that love during my adolescence, to extend to the whole of SE Asia.

Starting from my own blog in Greek, I then moved on to write for some of the major publications in Greece, and in a number of websites dealing with (Asian) cinema, such as Taste of Cinema, Hancinema, EasternKicks, Chinese Policy Institute, and of course, Asian Movie Pulse. in which I still continue to contribute.

In the beginning of 2017, I launched my own website, Asian Film Vault, which I merged in 2018 with Asian Movie Pulse, creating the most complete website about the Asian movie industry, as it deals with almost every country from East and South Asia, and definitely all genres.
