Although she faces many difficulties, Zhen Liu appears to be leading a normal life. In reality, she projects her anxiety onto her daughter. Zhen Liu seeks help from her husband's friend, lawyer, classmate, and business partner, each of whom is faced with a predicament. Everyone ventures to guess the reason for Xiao Ping's arrest. Zhen Liu's former suitor, Xin Lv, arrives to help her. He feels deeply moved by how she has changed. Xin Lv relies on his social network to help Zhen Liu understand why her husband was arrested. Zhen Liu feels it's very unfitting to establish contact with the authorities. A police officer ultimately tells Zhen Liu why her husband has been arrested, allowing her to see clearly the randomness of his so-called criminal charges. Her husband's absence allows Zhen Liu to understand him better. Since her husband has been charged randomly, Zhen Liu stops cooperating with Xin Lv and his social network because she believes their method is meaningless. An erroneous deal with Xin Lv makes Zhen Liu feel tremendous resentment toward him, so she refuses his help, though he still clings to their original plan. Xiao Ping eventually returns home, though his return has little to do with everyone's efforts to help him.

About the author

Adriana Rosati

On paper I am an Italian living in London, in reality I was born and bread in a popcorn bucket. I've loved cinema since I was a little child and I’ve always had a passion and interest for Asian (especially Japanese) pop culture, food and traditions, but on the cinema side, my big, first love is Hong Kong Cinema. Then - by a sort of osmosis - I have expanded my love and appreciation to the cinematography of other Asian countries. I like action, heroic bloodshed, wu-xia, Shaw Bros (even if it’s not my specialty), Anime, and also more auteur-ish movies. Anything that is good, really, but I am allergic to rom-com (unless it’s a HK rom-com, possibly featuring Andy Lau in his 20s)"
