Crowdfunding Campaign for Director Hara’s Ruins Chronicle

The house of Director Hara of Kyoto, burned down three years ago due an unexpected fire due to an electric leakage. Many of his films were also burned in the fire. However, not discouraged by the life-shattering incident, he and his wife completed a new piece based on this big event.

The title of the movie is “Chronicle in the Ruins”!

Hara was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, while his wife Maori continued filming. She continued to shoot, filming her family for 10 days after the fire. In this movie, her film is used as the main timeline. An image of the past 8mm film left unburned by the fire is inserted there, and in the final scene, an image taken with an 8mm film camera in October 2021 is inserted. Editing creates a natural family chronicle.

The film was filmed in its entirety and edited by Hara and his wife and has been produced with their own funds. Now that the edits are complete, they’re crowdfunding and asking for funding for sound conditioning and grading to complete and publish the film. The crowdfunding period is until the end of November 2021. They also accept support from overseas, so please support their challenges!

About the author

Rhythm Zaveri

Hello, my name is Rhythm Zaveri. For as long as I can remember, I've been watching movies, but my introduction to Asian cinema was old rental VHS copies of Bruce Lee films and some Shaw Bros. martial arts extravaganzas. But my interest in the cinema of the region really deepened when I was at university and got access to a massive range of VHS and DVDs of classic Japanese and Chinese titles in the library, and there has been no turning back since.

An avid collector of physical media, I would say Korean cinema really is my first choice, but I'll watch anything that is south-east Asian. I started contributing to Asian Movie Pulse in 2018 to share my love for Asian cinema in the form of my writings.
