Stars Hwang Dong-hyuk and Lee Jung-jae, respectively director and lead actor of the global hit Netflix TV series “Squid Game”; the master of Korean cinema Im Sang-soo; director Shin Su-won, one of the most representative of South Korea's female world; actor Cho Jin-woong (interpreter in over 50 films between cinema and TV) together with director, film promise, Lee Kyu-man. These are the protagonists of the red carpet of the twentieth edition of the Florence Korea Film Fest to be held in Florence from 7 to 15 April in the La Compagnia cinemas (main hall of the event), Stensen, MAD Murate Art District and online on the Più Compagnia and Mymovies.
The festival presents South Korea in 80 films in a program divided into sections: the biggest box office hits in Orizzonti Coreani; an important space for young promises in the Independent Korea and “Corti, Corti!”; the most stringent current events in the K-Documentary section. Among the absolute novelties the Webtoon & Cinema section, the focus on digital comics designed to be read on smartphones, among the latest trends in South Korea, and the launch on the market of K Vision, the first online platform in Italy dedicated only to Korean cinema. The program is joined by a retrospective of the films by actor Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), the first to be organized in Italy, with a selection of his greatest career successes.
The protagonists of this edition will be a series of masterclasses, a way to make the public meet the stars of the festival. On Saturday 9 April, actor Lee Jung-jae and director Hwang Dong-hyuk, chatted with film critics Caterina Liverani and Marco Luceri (11 am, admission € 10) to talk about Squid Game and explore the impressive acting career of Lee Jung-jae; On Tuesday 12 April, director Chae Yeo-jun and illustrator Kim Woo-sub will give an overview of the webtoon phenomenon together with Veronica Croce (11 am, admission € 5). This masterclass is in collaboration with Nemo Academy). And finally on Wednesday 13th, actor Cho Jin-woong and director Lee Kyu-man will retrace the fundamental stages of their careers and their successes, introducing the film “The Policeman's Lineage” (scheduled for the evening of 13 at 20.30) in company by Caterina Liverani and Luigi Nepi (University of Florence), with the participation of the director of the Festival Riccardo Gelli (11 am, admission € 5). Reservations are required for the admissions (all masterclasses will be held at the La Compagnia cinema, for more information visit the website www.koreafilmfest.com).
Riccardo Gelli, creator and director of the festival, declares – “We look back over the past twenty years and we are proud to be able to tell what we have built: an ideal but solid bridge between the two countries. This year, as I like to point out, it will not be just a festival but a party “.
