Osaka Asian Film Festival 2022: Jury Members Confirmed

2022 announces the members of the competition jury.

Competition Jury Members

IIJIMA Shuna (飯島珠奈) | Japan | Actress

IIJIMA is a bilingual Japanese actress. She is known for her leading role in Anshul CHAUHAN's film “Bad Poetry Tokyo” (東京不穏詩/OAFF2018) for which she received Best Actress Award in international film festivals including Osaka Asian Film Festival. Her directorial debut, the short film “Natsuko”, will be screened at OAFF 2022 in the Indie Forum section.

TAKEI Miyuki (武井みゆき) | Japan | Representative of the film company MOVIOLA

TAKEI founded the film company MOVIOLA in 2000. They have distributed films directed by WANG Bing, Apichatpong WEERASETHAKUL, Yasmin AHMAD, Frederick WISEMAN and others. Their next film set for distribution is “Petrov's Flu”, directed by Kirill SEREBRENNIKOV.

Esther YEUNG | Hong Kong | COO, We Pictures

YEUNG has extensive experience in the field of international film sales, including serving as director of Asian acquisitions at Fortissimo Films, where she helped auteurs like KORE-EDA Hirokazu (是枝裕和) launch their films internationally, and as Head of Sales and Distribution at Edko Films where she oversaw the local release of award-winning films including “Moonlight” and “Train to Busan”. She is also one of the founders of the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival.

Housen Short Film Award Jury Members

The jury for the Osaka Asian Film Festival 2022 will decide which of the 22 films among the less-than-60-minute films which are screened at OAFF 2022 as Japan Premieres will take away theHousen Short Film Award.

HAYASHI Mirai (林未来) | Japan | Manager of the mini-theater Motomachi Cinema

Born in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo. While attending university, HAYASHI worked as volunteer staff at Planet Plus One, a cinematheque in Osaka,
where she helped with operations and learned projection. After graduating, she worked as a projectionist at Cinefesta, a movie theater in Osaka. She was hired as full-time staff when the Motomachi Cinema opened in 2010, and she worked as a projectionist before being appointed manager in 2013.

KITAKOJI Takashi (北小路隆志) | Japan | Film Critic / Professor, Kyoto University of the Arts

KITAKOJI writes mainly film reviews for newspapers, magazines, and brochures. He is the author of “Love from Outer Space: WONG Kar-wai”.
His recent co-authored works include “Re-examining/Rethinking Edward YANG”, “Apichatpong WEERASETHAKUL: Artist of Light and Memory”, “Jean-Luc GODARD (Filmmaker 21)” and “IWAI Shunji: From Love Letter to Last Letter and Ni hao, Zhihua”.

ONO Kosuke (小野光輔) | Japan | Producer

ONO is a movie producer based in Kamakura. His produced works include the Taiwan-Japan co-production “Tea Fight” (闘茶/2008), “Hospitalité” (歓待/2010/OAFF2011), “Magic and Loss” (マジック&ロス/2010/OAFF2011), “Two Rabbits in Osaka” (大阪のうさぎたち/2012/OAFF2012), “Chigasaki Story” (3 泊 4 日、5 時の鐘/2014/OAFF2014), “Jeux de Plage” (浜辺のゲーム/2019/OAFF2019) and “Kamata Prelude” (蒲田前奏曲/2020/OAFF2020). He also teaches at Digital Hollywood University and Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University.

Hello, my name is Rhythm Zaveri. For as long as I can remember, I've been watching movies, but my introduction to Asian cinema was old rental VHS copies of Bruce Lee films and some Shaw Bros. martial arts extravaganzas. But my interest in the cinema of the region really deepened when I was at university and got access to a massive range of VHS and DVDs of classic Japanese and Chinese titles in the library, and there has been no turning back since.

An avid collector of physical media, I would say Korean cinema really is my first choice, but I'll watch anything that is south-east Asian. I started contributing to Asian Movie Pulse in 2018 to share my love for Asian cinema in the form of my writings.
