Manga Review: Please Put Them On, Takamine-san, Vol. 3 (2022) by Yuichi Hiiragi

Things continue to heat up in this standout NSFW series.

“Things heat up between Takamine and Shirota as the pair spend a stormy night together. But even as they grow closer, the future hangs over their heads. Will Shirota continue to be Takamine's closet after graduation, or will the two drift apart? Can he keep up with her record of perfection? Distance may not be the only thing coming between them, however, as Shirota runs into an old childhood friend…!” (Yen Press)

Sometimes, an absurd premise is enough to draw attention to a manga, in this case, the time-traveling abilities of a young student by removal of panties, with a hapless boy tasked with having to keep her underwear fully stocked. Throw in a plethora of fan service including an abundance of bosom, and titles like “” can get by just existing.  Undeniably, the format allows the narrative to play a secondary role while enticing readers in with the salacious elements. Yet, Yuichi Hiiragi manages to bring depth to a series that could have offered up just buxom beauties to gawk at.

Three volumes in, Hiiragi continues to develop both Takamine and Shirota while keeping interactions hot and heavy between the two. A new character is introduced to shake up the power dynamic, and details of Shirota's secret past begins to surface. As such, the combination of awkward sexual comedy and psychological torment escalates with each volume, offering a cohesive growing story instead of one-off erotic exploits. In particular, the main protagonist, Takamine feels fully realized for a character that easily could have just been the punchline to every lewd moment. Is it still a teenage wet dream? Certainly. But, Yuichi Hiiragi does not go for the low-hanging fruit in every scenario to get a jolt from the reader and continues to push the narrative in intriguing directions.

The art still manages to tease and please by focusing on Shirota's pronounced sexuality and her use of nudity to manipulate Takamine to her desires. Make no mistake, the primary focus of the work stays in presenting as much eroticism as possible–it is still the main draw and there are plenty of panels to get a bloody nose over (if that is your thing). If readers are only coming at the work to catch panty shots and bare breasts “Please Put Them On”, at its core, is pure exploitative lewdness.

For the reader actively seeking risque reads, “Please Put Them On Takamine- san” has plenty on offer with its gorgeous illustrations, well-developed characters, and dark themes. Its premise alone is going to capture some degree of fandom, but those already infatuated with mature-themed manga are bound to find this title to be an exceptional one among the slew of NSFW content. When it comes to mature titles, Yen Press has certainly been handpicking notable releases that still maintain the quality the publisher is known for. Make sure you also check out “I'm the Hero But The Demon Lord's Also Me” if you are looking to expand your lewd library!
