Open Call for International People’s Jury at Five Flavours Asian Film Festival (Warsaw, Poland). Recruitment from all European countries!

The Five Flavours Festival has started recruiting members for the International People’s Jury, for the 16th edition of the event. The Organizers invite to participate in this project people residing in Europe, full of passion and enthusiasm for Asian Cinema, who are willing to come for the duration of the Festival to Warsaw, Poland with a special task to evaluate the competition films and choose the title to receive the Grand Prix. During their stay, Jury members will have a chance to partake in a variety of workshops, widening their film horizons, improving their writing and editing skills under the guidance of Asian cinema experts.

To become a member of the Jury you don’t need any other festival experience, the project is directed to Asian cinema amateurs, who are beginning their journey of film criticism, with the intention of helping them improve their skills, by organizing workshops with experts and creating an environment where free discussion and critical thinking are very much welcome.

Each member of the Jury will receive a ticket to and from Warsaw, the Festival provides members with accommodation in a double hotel room, two meals a day, public transportation tickets and a pass with access to all of the Festival films.

Five Flavours Asian Film Festival is a showcase of the cinema from South and Southeast Asia, happening every year in Warsaw, Poland. Each year the Festival presents films from different Asian countries, varying from auteur cinema and experimental projects to high-quality genre movies. The People’s Jury was established in the year 2015, with only Polish members at the time, but it has since been an important part of the event and has evolved in its form. From the last edition of the Festival, the project transformed into an International People’s Jury, welcoming people from four other European countries and this year it has opened to people from all over Europe.

The International People’s Jury at Five Flavours Festival is a great opportunity for Asian cinema enthusiasts not only to further develop their film criticism skills and discuss their favorite movies in a creative environment, but also to watch close to 40 titles from all over Asia and meet interesting people with similar passion.

Panos Kotzathanasis

Panagiotis (Panos) Kotzathanasis is a film critic and reviewer, specialized in Asian Cinema. He is the owner and administrator of Asian Movie Pulse, one of the biggest portals dealing with Asian cinema. He is a frequent writer in Hancinema, Taste of Cinema, and his texts can be found in a number of other publications including SIRP in Estonia, Film.sk in Slovakia, Asian Dialogue in the UK, Cinefil in Japan and Filmbuff in India.

Since 2019, he cooperates with Thessaloniki Cinematheque in Greece, curating various tributes to Asian cinema. He has participated, with video recordings and text, on a number of Asian movie releases, for Spectrum, Dekanalog and Error 4444. He has taken part as an expert on the Erasmus+ program, “Asian Cinema Education”, on the Asian Cinema Education International Journalism and Film Criticism Course.

Apart from a member of FIPRESCI and the Greek Cinema Critics Association, he is also a member of NETPAC, the Hellenic Film Academy and the Online Film Critics Association.
