Prepare for a completely new look for Bruce Wayne.
Jumpei Mizusaki (a producer on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) and Takashi Okazaki (the creator of Afro Samurai), known as some of anime‘s top creators, are bringing you Batman Ninja: the film you never knew you always wanted (and after the underwhelming “Justice League“, you’ll likely want this movie more than ever). A new, thrilling trailer, fresh off of the presses from New York Comic Con, is below.
The lone warrior of Gotham City is getting a genre-twisting makeover in this upcoming release from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, reimagined as a vigilante samurai in medieval Japan.
Other characters like the Joker, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Robin, Gorilla Grodd, and other names from the DC canon are getting the shogun twist with Batman Ninja, directed by Mizusaki with character designs by Okazaki. The voice cast includes Koichi Yamadera as Batman, Wataru Takagi as Joker, Ai Kakuma as Catwoman, and Rie Kugimiya as Harley.
In this tale, Batman is transported to samurai-dominated feudal Japan, where he’s forced to fight against the crazed Joker, who is drawn in a much more stylistic (and nightmarish) design. Calling himself the “Devil King of the 6th Heaven” and “the most powerful figure in Japan,” the Joker aims to rewrite history- but not if Batman has anything to say about it.
Batman Ninja is set to release in Japan in 2018. Release dates for other countries are yet to be announced.
