If reports are to be believed, Gong Yoo has selected 8-part sci-fi drama “The Sea of Silence” as his next project. Following the reports, a representative from the actor's agency clarified, “It is true that Gong Yoo is reviewing an offer to star in ‘The Sea of Silence.' It is not confirmed.”
The project is based on a short film of the same name by director Choi Hang-yong. The story is a sci-fi thriller set in the future, where desertification has left the earth with food and water shortages. A special team is tasked with retrieving mysterious samples from an abandoned research base on the moon.
Actress Bae Doona, who has so far been in two projects for Netflix – Lana Wachowski's sci-fi series “Sense8” and “Kingdom”, Netflix's first K-Drama production – is also considering an offer to star alongside Gong Yoo.
Choi will be directing the series himself, which is being co-produced by superstar Jung Woo-sung. Screenwriter Park Eun-kyo, who co-wrote Bong Joon-ho's “Mother”, is on script duties.
The series is expected to start shooting in August this year.
