Following the protagonist through the risk he takes, his losses, his wins and just simply the sheer thrill of feeling a part of his journey cannot be explained. There have been hundreds of movies that have been written specifically to showcase the world of gambling but only a few stand out. Here are the 5 top Asian movies that would definitely give you casino vibes;

  • God of Gamblers (1989)

Even though this movie was made in 1989, it still currently stands out because it was told in such a way that would leave a lasting memory to anyone who watches it. This Hong Kong action comedy drama was written and directed by Wong Jing and follows the story of Ko Chun, a world famous gambler so renowned that he was nicknamed the God of gamblers. We see a lot of enacted casino scenarios and even see our protagonist playing games such as Mahjong and dice. 

  • Casino raiders (1989)

This is another classic written and directed by Jimmy Heung and Wong Jing. At a time when gambling themed movies were dominating the Hong Kong Movie scene, this movie managed to stand out and even had 2 sequels after it; No risk, no gain (1990) and Casino raiders II (1991). This movie follows the story of Crab Chan (Andy Lau) and Sam Law (Alan Tam) and how they were made to crack a scam led by a pair of Japanese gamblers.

  • The Conman (1998)

This 1998 Hong Kong action comedy movie also directed by Wong Jing grossed HK$17,369,190 at the Hong Kong box office during its theatrical run from 18 December 1998 to 19 January 1999 in Hong Kong. This goes to show how much people loved this movie. We see a lot of game of cards and gambling enough to give you casino vibes.

  • Poker King (2009)

If you haven’t seen this movie, then you should consider seeing this as soon as you can. Co-written and directed by Chan Hing-Kai and Janet Chun, this comedy movie stars Louis Koo and Sean Lau and tells the story of Jack(Louis Koo) and his attempt to take back charge of his family business from Uno (Lau Ching Wan) a small time crook turned casino magnate. Through a series of Poker king tournaments we are taken into the world of gamblers and casinos. This is definitely one casino vibe movie to watch.

  • From Vegas to Macau (2014)

Wong Jing seems to be the father of all casino movies as he also wrote and directed this amazing art.  This Hong Kong- Chinese movie which was released during the 2014 Chinese New year has an ensemble of amazing casts; Chow Yun-Fat, Nicholas Tse, Chapman To and Jing Tian and tells the story of Benz, his son Cool and his nephew, Ngau-Ngau. They are a part of a group of vigilantes who deprive gangsters and distribute the stolen things to the needy people. Looking to get the best casino vibe, consider watching this and keep in mind that Wong Jing does not disappoint.
