Five Most Iconic Casino Movies Of All Time

The casino industry is a booming one and the movie industry, well with all of the improved graphics, CGI enhancements, and good-looking actors and actresses, the movie industry is always booming! When you combine the two, more often than not, you are rewarded with an iconic movie. After careful research, binge popcorn eating and several slush drinks, we have made a final decision on what the best casino based movies are. There are 5 in our selection, and yes, there is a James Bond movie on our list. Check out the 5 iconic movies we have chosen based in or on a casino.

Casino Royale

As mentioned above, there is a James Bond movie on our list, what is a complete casino movie list without a little bit of Bond in it? Casino Royale was released in 2006 and remains one of the most iconic movies of all time. And despite having $150 million dollars for a budget, the crew managed to pull off such a sensational movie that it made $599 million at box office. This staggering profit resulted from a great cast, Bond being portrayed by Daniel Craig. The blue-eyed actor already had an amazing league of fans and being the lead character in Casino Royale almost guaranteed the movie release’s success.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

We loved this so much! The crazy characters are played by Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro and is based upon a rather trippy and drug-crazed weekend in Vegas. The movie was released in 1998 and some people are still wondering what went on there. Johnny Depp is loved by most and his character shows what a great actor he truly is. Based in Vegas itself, fans can enjoy the various casino lobbies, bars and restaurants of one of the biggest gambling hubs in the world and even though it was released in 1998, not much has changed since then. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Surprisingly enough, however, the movie had a budget of $18.5 million but only took $13.7 million at the box office.

Rain Man

There is no denying the artistry that has gone into making this movie. Based on a fictional character that has autism and played by Dustin Hoffman and co-starring Tom Cruise. The movie was released in 1988 and back then the budget was $25 million and it turned a whopping $354.8 million profit at the box office. The reason we have put it on our most iconic ‘casino’ movie list is mainly due to the skill shown in the main character’s role. Dustin Hoffman counted cards in casinos as his role was meant to do, however, the character was so well portrayed we actually forgot this was a man simply playing a role!

Ocean’s 11

The beginning of an era. Ocean’s 11 is based on one of the most ingenious heists in casino history. Played out by George Clooney, who was once regarded as the most eligible bachelor in Hollywood, Clooney acted alongside Brad Pitt. Pitt could be seen eating his way through the movie which added a comical spin on his character. Little did we know that Ocean’s 11 would be the beginning of an entire series of movies based on robberies and most of which were based on robbing casinos. The plot? Simply magnificent.

Rounders

This is a class and most certainly one of the most iconic casino movies of all time. Matt Damon acts the part of a reformed gambler who needs to begin playing high stakes games in order to help a friend in dire need of any kind of help. The movie was released in 1998 and made almost double in profits.

The above mentioned are only some of our favourites. There are a number more classic casino based movie hits that are just itching to be re-watched. We are hoping this year brings in some new movies with the potential of becoming iconic!
