Asia’s Favourite Celebrity Weddings That Will Be Remembered For A Long Time

The world firmly in the midst of the wedding season and many couples in the Western world are taking note of Singaporean, Japanese, and other Asian trends. This comes as no surprise. With Asian celebrities like  Xiao Ming having high profile wedding ceremonies, it is hard not to get swept up in the excitement of it all. From opulent wedding dress designs to personally crafted touches in  Battleship Island’s Song Joong-Ki’s big day, here are some of the most unforgettable Asian weddings and just how they made the day so special. 

Angelababy And Xiao Ming: Holographic Castles, 10 Feet Cakes And A 10 Foot Train

Dubbed the wedding of the decade, Angelababy and Xiao Ming’s fairytale wedding spared no expense. After being dodged by engagement rumors and  close calls with his engagement plans, Xiao Ming finally got down on one knee in front of the celebrity actress and singer in the United States in 2015. With  an estimated price tag of $43 million, the wedding took place in Shangai on October 8, 2015, in front of over 2,000 guests. For their chosen wedding theme, the couple opted for a castle theme couple with thousands of pink and white roses, 

According to reports, the ceremony was also live-streamed online for all the fans who eagerly wanted a glimpse and included a holographic castle and 10 feet carousel cake. The bride opted for not just one but 3 outfit changes including a custom creation from Dior- boasting a 10 feet train and hand-cut chantilly lace. Most notably, the couple’s wedding helped to revive the Chaumet brand, according to the South China Morning Post. This has been thanks to the well-publicised images and videos of Angelababy’s wedding ring worth over $1.6 million.

Muhammad Rahmat Geneid And Chika Tatsuzawa: Multiple Ceremonies, Multiple Countries And Upheld Traditions

In 2016, the long-distance couple made it official by tying the knot in a multi-city wedding that spanned over two weeks. Following the solemnization ceremony in Rahmat’s home country, the couple then held a more private Shinto ceremony in Japan 2 weeks later. For the first ceremony, they choose a floral theme and incorporated by the bride and groom’s differing cultural backgrounds. By including an Akad nikah ceremony and  jip san leong traditions in the celebrations, the couple made sure their wedding had a truly blended feel to it. This was further witnessed in the second ceremony as the groom’s Malaysian guests embraced the Japanese wedding attire of kimonos and hakama.

Song Joong Ki And Song Hye Kyo: Korean Banquet And The Lilies Of The Valle

Finally, the nuptials of South Korean actress Song Hye-Kyo and fellow actor Song Joong Ki made headlines in 2017 for its incredibly intricate details and estimated costs. After a picture-perfect proposal in Japan, the ceremony was held at the popular Shilla Hotel’s Yeong Bin Gwan and is said to have carried a hefty price tag including a lily of the valleys for the bridal bouquet which cost $12,200. The bride also chose french luxury jeweler Chaumet for her wedding band, reinforcing the brand’s growing popularity amongst Asia’s A-listers. While the wedding guest list was relatively small compared to other celebrity weddings, the personalised details such as the upscale dishes served tot their 150 guests. Sadly the couple has gone on to having a high profile split,  finalising their divorce in June 2019.

With such high profile examples, it is no secret why Asian weddings have become known for extravagance. From sprawling estate venues to big-budget cake designs, these celeb couples will certainly go down in history as having spared no expense to create the fairytale wedding of their dreams.
