Short Film Review: Shameless (2019) by Keith Gomes

A bold film that hits us hard and leaves us with many questions regarding the lack of humanity and compassion in the world around us.

In this world of ever-changing technology, controlled by the massive inventions in the fields of communication, slowly our mind and emotions are getting dominated by microchips and CPUs. And as virtual reality has taken control of our lives, mindfulness and compassion are fading away in the midst of artificial intelligence. Director portrays this frame of human mind in his brilliantly crafted hard hitting short film “”.

The narrative revolves around two protagonists- an uncouth young professional (), who works from home and always orders food online but has no respect and sympathy for the migrant working class; and a pizza delivery girl portrayed by , who is battered and pummeled by the unkindness and unsympathetic world around her. The narrative flows in the path of a black comedy with a touch of a thriller portraying the absence of virtues in human character in this technology driven modern world.

Hussain Dalal is brilliant as the young professional. His character has gone through different shades in a short span and those has been portrayed superbly. Sayani Gupta has a difficult role to portray but she does with perfect facial expressions which have been brilliantly captured by the director. The cinematography by Ovais Khan blends perfectly with the narrative and the film is brilliantly edited by Huzefa Lokhandwala.

“Shameless” is a bold film that hits us hard and leaves us with many questions regarding the lack of humanity and compassion in the world around us. It has a unique and unusual storyline that has been convincingly handled by the director Keith Gomes. Kudos to the entire team of “Shameless” for giving us such a thought-provoking film.
