India-based film-tech startup, ABC (All Bout Cinema) Talkies, launches internationally. ABC Talkies decided to take up the helm as the “The world's first Cinema Marketplace.” ABC Talkies sports itself ad a free trade marketplace for cinema and filmmakers to thrive; according to their press release, it is the first online marketplace where filmmakers are free to showcase their work of art and in the process monetize it. ABC Talkies not only aims in providing a digital platform for filmmakers from independent, amateur and brand new filmmakers where they can showcase and monetize their work but also assists them in marketing and promoting their creations. The idea to match talent of unreleased movies and make it easy for film projects to see the light of the day.
Siddharth Sinha, co-founder of ABC Talkies, tells us, “There is presently no platform that allows filmmakers to upload for free, set their own price and monetise their creation along with having an unbiased rating system. The idea to match talent of unreleased movies and make it easy for film projects to see the light of the day. Currently in India, filmmakers have 2 major options to showcase their work: (a) Theatres, DTH, OTT platforms – Benefits include reach and returns, and (b) Youtube – If the filmmakers cannot sell his film to either, then his only option is to go to Youtube. The many disadvantages and drawbacks of this is a non-dedicated platform for films, negligible recovery through ads, pre-condition to be met before monetisation starts. Also, once they upload their movies on Youtube there is no chance of the film being bought by OTT platforms.”
The start-up is still relatively green; it originally launched in during lockdown, in February this year. Though the start-up is still young, it is ambitious: they hope to transform the way people make and watch movies. ABC Talkies intends to bring about a “cinematic revolution” by allowing talents to transition into the digital world seamlessly, and will foster talent from tier 2 cities, smaller towns and states where opportunities for filmmakers are otherwise few and far between.
