Trailer: Escape from Mogadishu by Ryoo Seung-wan

Usually in this paragraph, I mention the importance of a particular upcoming project and why it should be on the audience's radar. For this one, I'm just going to mention three names: director and actors Kim Yoon-seek and . This is the real-life action drama “”!

Synopsis

“Escape from Mogadishu” deals with a real-life defection incident between the two Korean embassies in Somalia back in the nineties that purports to explore the relevant motives behind the event. Han Shin-sung works as an ambassador at the South Korean Embassy in Mogadishu, Somalia. A civil war breaks out in the country. Han Shin-sung, his wife, and embassy officials are trapped in the embassy building. Meanwhile, Kang Dae-jin works as a councilor at the North Korean Embassy in Mogadishu. The North Korean Embassy experiences the same threat of violence as the South Korean Embassy. Han Shin-sung and Kang Dae-jin work together to get people from both embassies out of Somalia.

After working with Hwang Jung-min on both his last projects “Veteran” and “The Battleship Island“, this will be Ryoo's first film with either actors and his second based-on-a-true-story production after “The Battleship Island”. Joining the two superstars are terrific supporting actors (“Silmido“), (who worked with Kim Yoon-seek on his directorial debut “Another Child“) and (“The Tiger: An Old Hunter's Tale”). “Escape from Mogadishu” is scheduled for a Summer 2021 release in South Korean, with a wider international release anticipated shortly after.

Rhythm Zaveri

Hello, my name is Rhythm Zaveri. For as long as I can remember, I've been watching movies, but my introduction to Asian cinema was old rental VHS copies of Bruce Lee films and some Shaw Bros. martial arts extravaganzas. But my interest in the cinema of the region really deepened when I was at university and got access to a massive range of VHS and DVDs of classic Japanese and Chinese titles in the library, and there has been no turning back since.

An avid collector of physical media, I would say Korean cinema really is my first choice, but I'll watch anything that is south-east Asian. I started contributing to Asian Movie Pulse in 2018 to share my love for Asian cinema in the form of my writings.
