SGIFF Film Academy Talks 2021 roster announced

The SGIFF Film Academy is the region’s first holistic training initiative to support Southeast Asian film talents and enhance the capabilities of the regional film scene. In this first series of talks, hear from filmmakers, producers and film writers as they share their industry knowledge and exchange ideas on their creative process. This year is particularly special to us at Asian Movie Pulse — as our founder and editor-in-chief, Panos Kotzathanasis, will speak on a panel as well.

Holding Steadfast to Your Artistic Vision

In this talk, the alumni of the SGIFF Southeast Asian Film Lab discuss how to hold firm and manage your creative process as a director amongst the feedback, opinions and challenges posed by various production collaborators along the way.

Moderator He Shuming (“Ajoomma”) will organize a panel with Amanda Nell Eu (“Tiger Stripes”), Quang Nong (“Baby Jackfruit”, “Baby Guava”), Sorayos Prapapan (“Arnold is a Model Student”), Tan Siyou “Amoeba”)

Finding Creativity in A World of Technicalities

A talk that features the alumni of the SGIFF Southeast Asian Producers Network exploring how a producer can contribute to the creative vision of a film, and dives deep into figuring out what director-producer relationship makes the dream work.

Moderator Jeremy Chua (Producer, “Protocol”) will speak with Aung Phyoe (Director, Third Floor Production), Bradley Liew (Director, Epicmedia), Lee Yve Vonn (Producer, Afternoon Pictures), Thaiddhi (Producer, Third Floor Production)

Developing the Critical Word in an Age of Opinion

The talk invites film writers to discuss their process of creating value in film literature discourse, while exploring developments to both traditional and newer platforms in reaching out to an audience.

Moderator Teo Xiao Ting (Independent writer) will be on-stage with Arian Jonathan Pasaribu (Editor-in-chief, Cinema Poetica), Davide Cazarro (Editor-in-Chief, NANG Magazine), Maggie Lee (Chief Asia Film Critic, Variety), Panagiotis Kotzathanasis (Founder, Asian Movie Pulse).
