Environment and Human Rights at Life After Oil International Festival. All the Asian Titles

17-18 September Brindisi (BR) Puglia and 22-26 September Villanovaforru (SU) Sardegna - Italia

LIFE AFTER OIL, the International Film Festival in Sardinia (and from this year in Apulia too) that specifically deals with issues relating to the environment and human rights at an international level, is back. Now in its 8th edition, the event conceived and directed by Massimiliano Mazzotta has increasingly become an important opportunity of dialogue for filmmakers, activists, and associations of various nationalities that want to discuss energy issues and the search for a more sustainable lifestyle that is right for everyone.

This year the Festival reiterates its itinerant and ubiquitous character: it takes place for the first time in Villanovaforru (SU) and in Brindisi. Sardinia and Apulia are two different realities but with several common factors. One above all, the beautiful landscape, ravaged by highly polluting industries that have compromised areas of naturalistic and environmental value, and caused irreparable damage to the health of the populations.

Life After Oil also confirms its keen eye on human rights through this year's collaboration with the Centro di Accoglienza Straordinaria of Villanovaforru (the Reception Centre for asylum seekers), with the guests of the Centro, actively involved during the days of the Festival.

IT'S LOOK SUNSHINE

Over a thousand works have been submitted from all over the world, many of them are first works, confirming how much Life After Oil continues to take into consideration and promote young directors. This popularity is a demonstration of the parallel growth of the Festival and the Life After Oil Association and of the increasing enthusiasm and recognition from the public, critics and directors of international independent cinema.

Complying with all the safety measures necessary for the health emergency due to Coronavirus, the 2021 festival will take place in Brindisi, Apulia at the Cinema Teatro Impero, from September 17rd to 18th, and in Villanovaforru, Sardinia in Piazza Costituzione, from September 22nd to 26th. The entry is free.

About the author

Adriana Rosati

On paper I am an Italian living in London, in reality I was born and bread in a popcorn bucket. I've loved cinema since I was a little child and I’ve always had a passion and interest for Asian (especially Japanese) pop culture, food and traditions, but on the cinema side, my big, first love is Hong Kong Cinema. Then - by a sort of osmosis - I have expanded my love and appreciation to the cinematography of other Asian countries. I like action, heroic bloodshed, wu-xia, Shaw Bros (even if it’s not my specialty), Anime, and also more auteur-ish movies. Anything that is good, really, but I am allergic to rom-com (unless it’s a HK rom-com, possibly featuring Andy Lau in his 20s)"
