Kappei (Hideaki ITO) is a martial artist who belongs to a group of “Doomsday Warriors”. Led by their Master (Arata FURUTA), they believe in Nostradamus' July 1999 prophecy and train vigorously on a secluded island to protect the world from impending destruction. Fast forward to 2022 and with the prophecy unfulfilled, the Master finally disbands and sends the group back to modern-day Japan. Lacking social skills and commonsense, Kappei and his warrior friends land in the big city of Tokyo to start their new life and awkwardly reintegrate into society. As “a hero without antagonists”, Kappei helps a weak college student Keita (Daigo NISHIHATA) and subsequently falls in love with an innocent college student Haru (Moka KAMISHIRAISHI).
This is a live-action adaptation of Kiminori WAKASUGI's (Detroit Metal City) post-apocalyptic comedy manga, Kappei, which was serialised in Hakusensha's Young Animal from 2011 to 2014 and then compiled in six tankōbon volumes. Experienced producer Takashi HIRANO (Nisekoi) makes his directorial debut with a screenplay by Yuichi TOKUNAGA (Lupin's Daughter). Kappei‘s theme song “Tekketsu Gravity” is performed by Takanori NISHIKAWA and Momoiro Clover Z.
