The Cinema Heritage festival announces the 9 films in the International Competition after more than 500 films were viewed. Costa Gavras and Cristian Mungiu will be the guests of honour on the closing night.

Eva Peydro, Barbara Lorey de Lacharrière and Philip Cheah, who make up the Selection Committee for the first edition of the Cinema Heritage festival, have viewed 500 films from 56 different countries and are presenting the finalists.

The International Competition comprises 9 films:

– Lubo by Giorgio Diritti Italy, Switzerland / 2023   /French premiere

Organised by the association AITYSH France under the patronage of UNESCO, Cinema Heritage is the international film festival dedicated to showcasing the world’s cinematic heritage.

With this in mind, two international filmmakers will be the guests of honour at the closing ceremony (02.12.2023) and will be thanked for their filmographies, whose works are now considered part of the world cinema heritage:

– Costa Gavras, French filmmaker, screenwriter and producer (Amen, Adults in The Room, Music Box, Missing, Z…)

– Cristian Mungiu, Romanian director, scriptwriter and producer (4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days, Beyond the Hills, Graduation…) R.M.N. will be screened during the festival.

They join on the list of prestigious guests for this first edition.

Cinema Heritage, an international film festival dedicated to showcasing the world’s cinematic heritage under the patronage of UNESCO, will be held in Paris from 28 November to 02 December 2023, in the Mac-Mahon and Lincoln cinemas.

Access to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies is by invitation only.

Panagiotis (Panos) Kotzathanasis is a film critic and reviewer, specialized in Asian Cinema. He is the owner and administrator of Asian Movie Pulse, one of the biggest portals dealing with Asian cinema. He is a frequent writer in Hancinema, Taste of Cinema, and his texts can be found in a number of other publications including SIRP in Estonia, Film.sk in Slovakia, Asian Dialogue in the UK, Cinefil in Japan and Filmbuff in India.

Since 2019, he cooperates with Thessaloniki Cinematheque in Greece, curating various tributes to Asian cinema. He has participated, with video recordings and text, on a number of Asian movie releases, for Spectrum, Dekanalog and Error 4444. He has taken part as an expert on the Erasmus+ program, “Asian Cinema Education”, on the Asian Cinema Education International Journalism and Film Criticism Course.

Apart from a member of FIPRESCI and the Greek Cinema Critics Association, he is also a member of NETPAC, the Hellenic Film Academy and the Online Film Critics Association.
