The actor/director has, through the course of his career behind the camera continued to reinvent himself, following his dramedy debut “Born to Sing” with the historical “The Sound of a Flower' before making the 1995 set “Samjin Company English Class”, a female-ensemble led feature. He now continues to do the same with his latest “”, an action thriller about North Korean soldiers.

Synopsis

Im Kyu-nam is a North Korean soldier. He dreams of starting a new life in South Korea. To accomplish his dream, he must flee his home country and cross the DMZ. Meanwhile, Officer Ri Hyun-sang of the State Security Department of North Korea chases after Im Kyu-nam.

If he opted for younger generation actresses like Esom, Go Ah-sung and Park Hye-soo in “Samjin Company English Class”, he does the same with his male leads for “Escape”, with both in-demand actors Le Je-hoon and taking the stage as Im Kyu-nam and Ri Hyun-sang respectively. About the author

Rhythm Zaveri

Hello, my name is Rhythm Zaveri. For as long as I can remember, I've been watching movies, but my introduction to Asian cinema was old rental VHS copies of Bruce Lee films and some Shaw Bros. martial arts extravaganzas. But my interest in the cinema of the region really deepened when I was at university and got access to a massive range of VHS and DVDs of classic Japanese and Chinese titles in the library, and there has been no turning back since.

An avid collector of physical media, I would say Korean cinema really is my first choice, but I'll watch anything that is south-east Asian. I started contributing to Asian Movie Pulse in 2018 to share my love for Asian cinema in the form of my writings.
