Steps to Throwing a Movie-Themed Party

Do you know what’s great about movies? Everyone loves them! Watching movies a favorite pastime for people of all ages. Movies allow you to escape your own realities and enter instead into the lives, experiences, or moments in time of others (whether fiction or non-fiction).  Essentially, no matter what your genre of choice, movies are entertaining, educational, and in some ways, therapeutic.

Seeing as how movies are viewed in this way, having a movie-themed party only makes sense! Here are a few ideas on how to make sure your party goes off without a hitch.

Decide on a Theme

When it comes to selecting a theme for your movie party the options are plentiful. You could go with a general movie theatre concept. The idea is that you’d set up your home or chosen venue to look like a movie theater complete with traditional movie theatre decor, snacks, seats, and a big screen. If you want to dig a bit deeper, however, you could also choose a favorite movie and use that as the center of your theme. You could have guests dress as characters from the scene and take various elements from the move to come up with ideas for decor and food.

Select a Venue

Where do you plan on hosting your movie-themed party? If you’re only inviting a few people over, you may prefer to have it at your house or your backyard. However, if you’re expecting a big turnout or simply don’t want it held at your place then you want to find the ideal place to host your event. You can check out banquet halls, concert halls, movie theaters, auditoriums, or outdoor spaces like parks. If you’ve decided to go with a venue outside of your home, make sure that you have put down a deposit and/or gotten the necessary permits.

Send Out the Invites

After deciding on the theme of your movie party and locking in a venue, you’re ready to send out your invitations. Keeping with your theme, try to design invitations that give guests a glimpse of what they can expect at your event. Be sure to provide important details like the date, time, location (and directions), dress code (if there is one), and an RSVP date. If you’re throwing a birthday party, you might also want to include details like whether or not it’s a surprise, gift suggestions, or where to send things like cash or funny birthday cards

Choose a Movie

Obviously, if you’ve put together an anime-themed party for your teenage son, then you’re going to play his favorite anime at the event. However, if your theme was more generic (i.e. movie theater theme), then you’ll need to decide what kind of movie you’re going to show. You can come up with ideas based on the purpose of the event, the ages of people attending the event, or perhaps screen a movie that’s popular and just came out. Another option would be to let your guests decide. You can choose your top 5 favorite movies and then send out an email, text message, or social media post asking guests to choose which one they’d prefer to see.

Food and Beverages

No movie experience is complete without good food and drinks. For those who want to create the full movie theater experience, opting for traditional foods like popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, soft pretzels, and boxed candy would help to tie everything together. If you want to offer more than just snacks, sticking with appetizers and finger foods is highly recommended as it’s easy for your guests to grab and enjoy while watching the film without needing things like a table or utensils to consume.

To be quite honest, you really can’t go wrong with a movie-themed party. Whether you’re planning a corporate event, celebrating a birthday or graduation, trying to find a unique way to educate your audience, or you just want to entertain your closest friends and family, everyone will have a great time. Simply use the tips provided above to put together a movie experience no one will soon forget.
